HUGS Prevention Center

Child abuse and neglect occur in all segments of our society, but the risk factors are greater in families in which parents seem to be having economic, housing or personal problems; are isolated from their families or community; have difficulty controlling anger; abuse alcohol or drugs; have little to no education; and were abused or neglected as children (Prevent Child Abuse America, 2003). Prevention is the key to lowering both the maltreatment rate and reducing the need to place children in foster care (Children’s Services Council of PBC).

Through the HUGS Prevention Center the Children’s Healing Institute addresses the issues that place parents at risk of abusing or neglecting their children. We provide in-home case management services to help families identify and obtain services that reduce stress and improve home environments.

Programs under the HUGS Prevention Center include:

Palm Beach County Programs

Breastfeeding Coalition of Palm Beach County

The Coalition’s mission is to ensure a strong, positive climate of breastfeeding promotion, education, and support through a cooperative network of community agencies, organizations and individuals.

Parent Child Youth Mentoring Program

The Parent Child Youth Mentoring Program is a voluntary program for families with school age children that feel overwhelmed and want to ensure that their children do their best in school. A volunteer mentor visits a family twice per month for six months to a year. The Volunteer Mentor will talk and listen to the children, spend time having fun together, and can assist parents with questions regarding their child's education, development and safety.
